The HKU Foundation supported the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble (HKGDE) 香港天籟敦煌樂團 for a concert, “Dunhuang – Resonance of Silk Road, Past and Present”《敦煌•絲路迴響》, at the Grand Hall, Lee Shau Kee Lecture Centre, on June 7, 2019. It marked the first anniversary for the HKGDE, which is dedicated to the reproduction and reinterpretation of Dunhuang ancient music, thus enhancing and promoting Dunhuang art and culture.
During the Tang Dynasty, Dunhuang was a cosmopolitan city located on the Silk Road. Hundreds of caves were preserved from the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, which were carved over a millennium ago and contain invaluable musical relics.
The concert hoped to revisit, reflect and realise the immortal spirits of Mogao and the “never-give-up” spirit of the Lion Rock that creates the miracles of Dunhuang and Hong Kong.
